《致命惯性》原是日本著名游戏厂商KOEI计划针对PS3同步推出的的一款科幻赛车游戏。有别于KOEI传统的风格，本作是一款未来的赛车游戏，玩家可以在游戏中使用各种的武器进行攻击或是制造障碍，游戏有对战排名等各种不同的游戏模式。KOEI表示这款游戏使用了他们自行开发的物理引擎，游戏中的表现将有别于过去的赛车游戏，会有更真实的表现。其故事背景发生在23世纪中期，当时的人们全都热衷于一种全新的运动，这便是驾驶着漂浮于半空中的交通工具，在特定的场景里与其他同好来场激烈有趣的竞赛；而游戏内容当然也不是只有比速度而已，玩家还能利用不同的武器破坏背景，或者是以被破坏的背景阻碍对手的行进等。
